Double A.B. & Dub Sonata---Media Shower

Artist: Double A.B. & Dub Sonata
Album: Media Shower
Label: Man Bites Dog

MC/producer collabos take much work as other projects if not more. Chemistry can either make or break an entire collaboration project. Gang Starr personified the structure of how to make classic MC/producer album and a few others can pull this out. This includes New York native MC Double A.B. who made it to the source unsigned hype column and won the blaze battle as teams up with producer Dub Sonata to create a finely packaged album “Media Shower”.
This album is a simply formula of Double A.B. and Dub Sonata sounding in sync together with versatile beats and tight lyrical content. The album starts off very strong with “So Jetsons” which brings out Dub Sonata beats. “Children of the Night” shows Double A.B. on the storytelling side about coming to see a drunk for roughing up his girlfriend during a weed sale while “Lord Knows Why” featuring Roc Marciano shows Double A.B. on his improvising of what he wants in life: I don’t know what I’m trying to hide from/I’m kinda sick of running from my problems…I’m just trying to get my family fed/find a bed, while I rest my head on a fancy spread; he continues with a powerful chorus: I’m trying to chase my dream, I’m trying to chase my dream/I need that mansion money, that twenty acre green/just a couple of bucks to get my wardrobe buff/something keeps holding me back but Lord Knows What.
The collaborations on this album fit perfectly. Tracks like the title track and “Street Survival” places Double A.B. with the big leagues and can hang with them while “Some Bullshit” is one of my favorite tracks with Double A.B. teams up with an impressive Scram Jones and Duck Down’s solider Sean Price. Dub Sonata knows how to cook up a beat and places the right kicks and snares exactly at the right time. This takes a lot of persistence which many producers lack due to their impatience.
Overall, this album has no wack tracks. This album is packaged well from start to finish on all levels. This inspired collaborative effort worked well and the rap world hopes another album from the producer/MC duo in the future to come; a tag team effort worth checking out.
