Artist: Jermiside and
Danny Diggs
Album: Quiet as Kept
Label: Independent
Producers: Danny Diggs
In
2013, there is an emergence of emcees linking up with the producer to make a
complete project. This includes Cincinnati born, Atlanta Bred Jermiside teaming
up with Canadian producer Danny Diggs in making another project. With an
impressive debut album “Middle Classic”,
the tag team duo returns with their sophomore project “Quiet as Kept”.
There is no question that Jermiside
has lyrical delivery and strong subject matter and Danny Diggs ignites the
flame with his soulful production. You can hear the musical chemistry blending
well on the beginning tracks of “How I Feel”, “Never” and the 90’s inspired posse
cut “Book of Rhymes” with the deejay scratches fitting to the beat. One of the
few tracks on this album stands out is “Bloodline” where Jermiside spits
eloquently about his ancestors during the struggle and never forgetting his
past: they say there’s no future without a past/staring at the hourglass trying
to make it last. Danny Diggs knows how to blend the beats well for Jermiside to
flip the script and the piano samples are blessed with the hard knocking drum
patterns on “Innocent” where Jermiside spits about the choices made and the
consequences behind it and the other stand out track “Victory Is Mine” is a
smooth laid back joint with a golden era reminiscent vibe to it.
Throughout this album is based on smooth
piano soulful beats and Jermiside delivery matches well. Jermisde knows how to
keep the listener attuned with his lyrical narrative that is thought provoking.
Danny Diggs knows how to bring out Jermiside lyrical cadence with the dope
production behind it. The ten track album is easy to listen to. There are no
special tricks behind it and the originality towards it remains the same. Not
as innovative as Middle Classic but
they are sticking to the same formula: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Other
than that, this album is definitely not a disappointment and it’s quite
impressive from the duo of Jermiside and Danny Diggs. This is a album worth
listening to!
