Full story below.

Ever had a dream that you just felt like giving up on because all odds seemed stacked up against you? Trust me my friend, you are not alone. August Alsina is a man who understands "the struggle."
Alsina life wasn't always luxurious. He may be a celebrity now, but that doesn't mean he hasn't felt pain before. He's just like you. A kid from the hood with a dream that's full of ambition.

August grew up in the city of New Orleans with his mother and older brother, Melvin La'Branch III. While growing up, August watched his father battle a crack cocaine addiction, so his mother was his only support system. She struggled  mentally and physically by holding down many jobs just to make a way for him and his brother. The struggle doesn't stop there. Seeing his mother down made him gravitate to the fast money life style to help his mother. During an interview with Hot97, August stated, "The streets were like a father figure to me." But that quickly came to an end. On August 31, 2010, August older brother, Melvin was shot and killed. It seemed like trouble had followed him where ever he went. After the death of his brother, his mother kicked him out the house because of many disagreements between the two. He then became homeless, and dropped out of high school before the age of 18. (He would later go back to obtain his G.E.D)

Singing has always been a part of August's life, but after the death of his brother, he felt like it was only right to go all in with his craft. He is famously known for his EP: Downtown: Life Under the Gun, which includes the hit "I Luv it." Also, early this year, August released his debut album entitled Testimony. As of today, the album as sold over 150,000 copies. It includes hit after hit; "Right There," "Make It Home," "Kissing on my Tattoos" & "You Deserve."

August Alsina has gone through so much during his 21 years of living, but he never allowed "the struggle" to stop him from reaching his dreams. and now he shares his craft with millions of young people just like him. He is truly a voice for the voiceless.
