Rob Be & Airlocke-The
Subherbs-----(2013)
Artist: Rob Be &
Airlocke
Album: The Subherbs
Label: Independent
Producer: Airlocke
San
Francisco aka the bay area is known for putting out some quality music throughout
the years. This includes the tag team duo of rapper Rob Be and producer Airlocke.
Straight outta the 415, the members of Next Gen Music Rob Be and Airlocke are teaming
up for some good feel music. Great music coming from the bay area as rapper Rob
Be collaborates with producer Airlocke for a tight knit LP The Subherbs.
As you can tell, the album brings a
good balance of the west side musically. The album opens up with a soulful
intro that keeps heads nodding. One thing with producer Airlocke is that his
beats complement the lyrical cadence of Rob Be on tracks like Honey and the first single infused with
a Janet Jackson sample If I Could.
Rob Be also brings the listener to his life on If I Could where he converts the negatives into positives with this
feel good beat riding behind it. The album continues the feel good vibe with U Have Nothing and the female holler
inspired Glow where Rob Be kicks good
16’s and Airlocke diversifies the kicks and drum pattern that doesn’t lose the
consistency of the album, which is smart. Another good track that fits the
album are the jazzy influenced Drivin’
a blunted feel track where Rob Be flows with eloquence and To the Stars Interlude where Airlocke sticks to the script on that
jazzy vibe.
Too much credit, this is a very good
album for the Bay Area duo. The production by Airlocke is definitely on point
which fits Rob Be lyrical delivery. Although there is no standout track on this
album, it’s a listenable album that works well. Some critics may speculate that
Rob Be’s flow can be repetitive at times but this doesn’t lessen the
cohesiveness the duo brings to the project. The twelve track album is
predominately constructed by Rob Be lyrically and produced only by Airlocke
with minimum guest appearances; this is a mechanism that many artists
especially in the mainstream can’t do. This is a great chill opus with strong
melodic instrumentals that keep the listener nodding their heads and replay the
album more than once. It’s a great start from the 415. Consistently constructed
and gels well, Rob Be and Airlocke will open The Subherbs to the fans and they will enjoy the visit.
