KONY Brooks-Kony Island/Independent-(2013)
Artist: KONY Brooks
Album: Kony Island
Label: Independent
Producers: I-Sample, Qu’ality Productions, Wize the Producer, Teddy Grahams, Dimension Beats, Inkomplete Beats, others

KONY Brooks has been incrementally putting the Bronx on the map in the underground scene. KONY is not new to this as his lyrics hits a nerve like a heart surgeon. Since his impressive mixtapes and rocking shows including ripping the “I am Boss” freestyle, he comes back with his latest opus the highly acclaimed “Kony Island”
The album makes a great introduction as Kony Brooks introduces to the world of life on Kony Island. Producer ISample displays the perfect melodic beat on “The Message” where Brooks exercises his lyrical fitness: thoroughbred MC massacre with a pen and pad/been bad since Sesame Street and similac. “Queen of New York” odes respect to the woman in Kony’s life where he wants to spoil his queen and bang bang like pops do. One of the strongest tracks is “Maze” demonstrating nostalgia of the ole days in trying to get into the rap game while “City Life” brings the cinematic perspective of the gritty life. This is where KONY paints a mental picture of the 90’s golden hip hop era where many old school fans yearns the most. “Never Thought” is a Notorious B.I.G inspired track where Brooks never loses his lyrical balance and the potential radio friendly “What You Know” featuring Teddy Grahams and Swagg is an up tempo club banger danceable for the ladies but has an aggressive bounce.
Kony is not afraid to take chances by going through the wire. “Middle Fingers” and “Bottle After Bottle” are great examples of living the good life as Kony switches delivery and keeps it current. “Legs Apart” is the album filler that didn’t capture the listener like the other bangers. This album picks up with the King Leo demonstrates perfect compatibly with his production adding the right high hats and kicks with Brook’s lyrics in the potential club banger “What’s it Gonna Be”.
Kony Island delivers the fans with an enjoyable sunny environment where lyrical content and hot beats matter the most.  The production is very well diverse that complements Kony’s delivery and flow. In this attempt, Kony Brooks appears focused and knows how to put out not only lyrical content tracks but also knows how to put out a song; a trait many emcees have trouble doing. This is a great project from the young and hungry Bronx emcee. We will hear more of Kony Brooks in the future.
