Queens
emcee Aye Wun has been making heavy noise. He got them heavy bars for days that
have people scratching their heads. Putting that emphasis on straight lyrics is
part of hip hop and Aye Wun is bringing it back to the years when punchlines
and storytelling rhymes matter. As N.O.R.E. emphatically calls him the Illapino
and rightfully so on the groundbreaking underground hit “Rigamortis”, Broken
Home’s Aye Wun finally comes correct with The
1st Letter EP.
Now you know the beast is coming out
of Aye Wun when he manhandles the sixteen on tracks like the piano infused “Secret
Fan” and the self-produced “Drop That Loot”. The hard boom bap beat pattern and
the scratches on Drop That Loot fits Aye Wun right in his alley putting his
clever wordplay to the test: she stalking with pretty heels, I got to cop a
titty feel/and if she’s open, I poke her in the parking lot at citi field. “You
Won’t Be Around Next Year” is that hard hitting track that will put competitors
out of commission when he spits with precision and the awesome Craig Mack’s “Flavor
In Your Ear” remix. The guest appearances are picked well on this album. Cory
Gunz tag teams with Aye Wun on the Tony Heathcliff produced “The God’s Day Off”
which has a cool contemporary beat to it with awesome kicks provided while QB’s
Capone assisted with the Filipino emcee on “The Blastoff”. You gotta love this
cat rhymes that cut heads off like a machete with dope chorus and immaculate 16’s:
here goes the blastoff, wax on wax off/when I enter the building, you takes
your hats off/high caliber, hard body metallica/real champions take on all
challengers….eastern pacific, it’s like I’m teaching statistics/whenever I preaching
sadistic, I’m just being specific/I’m gifted, special like a 38 biscuit/greasy
like a pot frying 38 fish sticks.
The
1st Letter EP is a prime example of how music is done. Aye Wun
as an artist got lyrics that will put other emcees doing their joints again. The
borough of Queens is going on the right direction with this project and this is
a warm up for future Aye Wun projects. His lyrical cadence puts him in the
great spotlight. The illapino will come with a vengeance with one dope sixteen
after another. If you want to hear clever lyrics and hard hitting production,
this is the blueprint from the Broken Home’s lyricist.
