Hip
Hop in the east coast in New York City has been scarce. The fans are wondering
what happened to that hard east coast sound resonated first in the big apple.
Look no further as artist Maffew Ragazino straight outta Brownsville emerges
with some heat. Stepping in with lyrical prowess that can send the average
emcee packing, there is a unique talent within Maffew that spits hip hop.
Unfortunately, Maffew Ragazino is the most slept on artist with a strong bite
to body any track that comes his way. The Brownsville pedigree will change all
that with his latest mixtape aka street album for the heads. Can the Brownsville
Jesus breathe life to a volatile hip hop game?
Already you can hear the gutter
sounds that is considered hip hop to its purest form. The DJ Vanderslice hard
patterns to the title track starts off heavy as Maffew Ragazino commentates a
narrative of his upbringing in Brownsville which is nothing sweet. Jimmy Dukes
also catered to Maffew Ragazino’s lyrical cadence to a tee with tracks like the
eerie Beef Lo Mein and the braggadocios
La Cosa Nostra where he reps
Brownsville to the fullest with clever wordplay: my own shit better than your
latest sh*t/ni**a my new sh*t is Formaldehyde/I’m a Rockaway ni**a peace to the
other side/Mother Gaston, Dumont, Livonia set aside/my momma’s apartment use to
be subsidized/that’s what inspired my mutha fu**ing drive. The album continues with
hard beats and lyrics with tracks like Money
Right and Hectic while the nicely
kicks provided by Alex Lustig on the original Eddie’s Couch.
The album continues with that hip
hop sound that have heads nodding their heads. The dark piano infused Hiluminati paints a picture of the hood
through Maffew’s lens and the awe inspired Amen
featuring Spazz One takes heat to another dimension. The guest appearances fit
the album on tracks like Necessities,
Jane Fonda, the Pete Cannon produced Avatar where he trade blows with Action
Bronson and Torae and BK Accent where
Maffew teams up with Skyzoo to describe the differences within the borough of
Brooklyn that females from other boroughs love but hate traveling because it’s
too much traffic. The chorus is catchy and that brings the listener to their
description of Brooklyn. Hip Hop greatest puts it to rest and ends perfectly
like the cinematic track Box Office
where Maffew and fellow Brooklynite Troy Ave create a storyline of their
Brooklyn swag and the courage inspired Never
Ran, Never Will narrates the life of Maffew Ragazino spits the chilling venomous
rhymes with a hard head nodding drum pattern provided by the Optiks.
Brownsville Jesus breathes fresh
life into the hip hop scene based on lyrical stamina, delivery and hard head
nodding production. Maffew Ragazino knows how to pick the right beats
compatible to his lyrical cadence and picks the right guest appearances. This
album has a story book mixed with cinematic flair of Brownsville in a nutshell.
With this street album hitting hard body, Maffew Ragazino finally wake people
up to the essence of street music. Twenty tracks of music that the average bubble
gum music listener can’t comprehend. This is definitely a plus for the
Brownsville artist that creates lyrical wizardry mixed with street cinematic
flair which many hip hop fans wanted to hear. In a nutshell, Brownsville
Jesus is a savior under the Old and New Testaments.
