Fredro Starr-Made In The Streets-----(2014)
Artist: Fredro Starr
Album: Made In The
Streets
Label: Independent
Producer: Audible Doctor
It’s
no surprise that the front runner of the infamous group from South Suicide
Queens Onyx Fredro Starr made his mark in hip hop. With various group albums
including the hip hop classic album Bacdaf*cup and All We Got Is Us and Shut Em
Down and his solo albums under his belt, Fredro Starr knows about song
structure and how to bless the microphone whether solo or with a group. Also an
acting career under his service jacket, Fredro Starr made sure he is constantly
working. When Fredro Starr spits, his commanding voice grabs the listener to
listen to what he has to say. Fredro Starr teams up with producer Audible
Doctor on their latest project Made In The Streets.
This album is entirely produced by
the Audible Doctor supplying the Onyx front runner with an array of beats that
match the intensity of the album. Starting off with the blazing first single Everyday Hell displaying a moody piano
based feeling where Fredro spits about the everyday rough lifestyle people go
through. The head nodding That New York is
a commentary track where Fredro Starr went ham describing the grimey streets of
Queens from his truthful lens. The Truth calls
out wack rappers who can’t hold it down which Fredro shows how it is done while
the storytelling track This Ain’t My Day
is where Audible Doctor flexes his production skills with the violin strings
and the heavy drum patterns.
As the album progresses, Audible
Doctor brings the golden era essence feeling with boom bap drum patterns and
scratching Big L voice to Holdin’ It Down
where Fredro gets an assist from the rapsy voice of Makem Pay and Ain’t No Other Kings where DJ Nelson
provides the awesome scratches that matches Audible Doctor’s production. Fredro
continues with the raw narrative stories that keep people up on their toes such
as Polo Wars and the best descriptive
of his former and current stomping grounds on Suicide Queens. One thing with Fredro is he knows how to bring the
essence of the streets to light as he teams up with Philly Swain on Hit Man 4 Hire where Audible Doctor
provides the hiding singing into this cinematic beat enough for the two hit men
to body the track.
Made In The Streets brings out the
best of the tag team duo of Fredro Starr and Audible Doctor. The music
chemistry between Fredro and Audible Doctor is a great tag team where they pull
each other within their own role. The production on the album brings the energy
out of Fredro Starr with a span of beats that matches his lyrical charisma. One
thing with Fredro Starr is that he can make a song that paints a picture in the
listener’s mind. It’s not always about spitting a dope sixteen, it’s who can
bring life into a song and Fredro Starr knows how to puts the pieces back
together like a jigsaw with tracks like Polo Wars, Suicide Queens and Made In
The Streets (Remix) to name a few. This is a well put together album where the
golden era 90’s hip hop feeling mixed with a little contemporary flair to give
it that extra bounce. We will see more work from the dynamic duo that is made in
the streets.
