Tyga-Hotel California-Young Money/Cash Money-(2013)
Artist: Tyga
Album: Hotel California
Label: Young Money/Cash Money
Producers: Dez Dynamic, Cool and Dre, Detail, FKi, The Olympicks, others

California’s rapper Tyga has received some fame from his consistent work. Although it doesn't define the 23 year old rapper from Los Angeles, it was through the sacrifices that Tyga put in the work to where he fits in the music industry. Under the acronym Thank You God Always, he made a name for himself throughout the industry lately. We heard of him from the 2011 salacious banger "Rack City". Now signed with Young Money with two albums and mixtapes under his belt, the member of the infamous Young Money camp Tyga is ready to take on his third solo studio album Hotel California.
Based on the impressive album cover, there might be some joints to bump to. With great guest appearances such as Rick Ross, Detail, Future and Wiz Khalifa to name a few there is a chance from some listenable tracks. After giving it a few listens, this album lacks originality with average lyrics and lackluster production. There are some radio friendly tracks which gives him the edge but this isn’t the powerful uppercut album it anticipated; just a couple of a jabs to the abdomen with no impact.
It’s a failed attempt with questions of where is the formula to this album. Tracks like “500 Degrees”, Dope Song” and “Get Loose” are very forgettable without any imagination. The production on the album showed very little creativity. The Cool and Dre produced “It Never Rains” fits the comparison of a bland beat rendition of the Tony Toni Tone classic although Game rhymed pretty well and “Dope” featuring Rick Ross sounds awful. Do we have to hear more of the Dr. Dre and Snoop classic “Deep Cover” being done over and over again. It brought no creativity unlike Big Pun and Fat Joe classic Twinz.
There are very few average tracks that gel together. “Enemies” fits the bill when the production became innovative with some kicks and snares provided by SAP. Tyga didn’t come off as well lyrically but this track passes just barely. The pill popping track “Molly” featuring the steel city rapper Wiz Khalifa and Mally Mall has a futuristic beat that fits for the radio and strip clubs. Wiz took over the song despite Tyga’s simplistic rhymes. Tyga’s delivery did save the beat but it was all Khalifa. The Olympicks did justice on “Palm Trees” where Tyga put his lyrics to the test. The delivery came just at the right time that ended the album. The lyrics on the album didn’t help much either. Almost every track talks about money and girls which brings nothing to the table.
This is really a frustrating experience going through Hotel California. What can you discover when there is bland production and monotonous lyrics and delivery? Not as creative like the second opus “Careless World” as this album is straight heatless. After a few listens and radio spins, the party and sexual content will wear thin. Hotel California played it safe and didn’t take any risks that people were hoping for. For the listeners, you may want to go to a different hotel but if you are really desperate of a place to stay, Hotel California may be the place but enter at your own risk and ask for a refund.
            Strong Tracks: “Enemies”, “Palm Trees”
Average Tracks: “Hijack”, “Get Rich”, “Molly”
Weak Tracks:  “500 Degrees”, “Dope Song”, “Get Loose”, “Dope”, “It Never Rains”
            Rating: out of
